We finally made it. After being on the road for more than 2 weeks we have settled at last. You’re probably thinking “I know a trip from Utah to Florida is a long drive, but two weeks?” the truth is we stopped in Nauvoo Illinois for a few days and then in Lexington Virginia for a week so it would have taken us a little more then 4 days if we had driven straight here, but we enjoyed the detour. And I’m not sure if Katelyn would have been a chipper little traveling buddy if we had tried to do it without a few long stops. She only tolerated about a day and a half of driving before she let us know she was through which was fine because that’s how long it took us to get to Nauvoo from Provo.
Nauvoo is BEAUTIFUL. It’s a quiet little town that makes you feel like you went back in time a while. There are lots of cute little shops that close at 6pm or 7pm. Everyone knows his neighbors and people actually say hi to you on the street. We discovered how fun it is to take Katelyn places. She Loves people and people seem to love her. She watches them, waiting for them to look at her so she can dazzle them with the cutest little smile. And then she turns away pretending to be shy. It never fails she captures one heart after another. We loved it in Nauvoo.
We stayed longer then we had planned and had to drive to Lexington in one day we started driving at 5am Illinois’ time and arrived in Lexington 9pm Virginia time. We arrived just in time to watch the fireworks celebrating Cameron’s brother, Adam’s graduation from Washington and Lee law school. We played with Adam and Kristin and their two boys for a few days then drove to D.C. to see our nation’s capitol with every elementary, junior and high school student within a day’s journey. If you are planning a trip to Washington D.C. in the month of May, be sure to go on a weekend, or at least avoid going on a Thursday and Friday. We Loved DC it was amazing to see the history of this country up close and personal. After DC we went back to Lexington and on down to Naples Florida. We arrived here Tuesday afternoon. This has been a great experience for someone who just a few years ago hadn’t been farther east then Billings Montana.
We are all doing well. We have spent this week going to the beach, swimming at the pool, catering a graduation, shopping and washing the bugs from 13 different states off our car. Rumor has it I will be working in the Primary as the music leader in our ward this summer. Cameron has started work with his dad doing construction. I’m sure after being in the sun all day he will fit right in with elderly in Florida who spend all day at the beach in their Speedos and bikinis, while I, on the other hand will constantly be asked if I just got here due to my lack of tan. Oh well.
